Professor McCaskie delivered a public lecture “From steel to stem cells – bone and joint repair and regeneration.”
The lecture examined key advances in orthopaedic surgery by repairing or regenerating bone and joint tissues. It explored the progression from familiar materials currently used in joint replacement e.g. steel and plastic, towards advanced materials, molecules and cells that encourage repair in the body. The lecture indicated how a bench to bedside research programme, building up clinical evidence, is key to successful adoption into healthcare. The event was extremely well attended in a large venue (Martin Cohen Lecture Theatre, Li Ka Shing Centre, Cambridge Research Institute) and was ticketed.
